A report by Carbon Brief stresses the importance of reducing energy demand and not just to focus on low carbon generation.
The report suggests as a nation we should be focussing on the introduction of LED lighting and high efficiency vacuum cleaners and other appliances which have reduced energy consumption in the UK down to around 5MW hrs per capita from a peak in 2005, the same as 1984 levels.
Stating that fossil fuel energy was reduced by the equivalent of 95 terawatt hours (TWh) through the use of renewables, since 2005. However when focusing on energy efficiency, energy demand has been cut by an impressive 103 TWh.
In line with the UN’s climate body, the report gives weight to energy efficiency being a major policy objective.
With this in mind, it’s clear that the most effective method of drastically reducing carbon emissions is to adopt low carbon generation methods whilst manage the actual energy demand.
Ultimately the lowest carbon energy option is the energy never generated.
This is exactly how Minibems affords it’s large savings – managing actual demand. You can find out more about Minibems here: Minibems Overview.
